18-23 September 1999, to Perugia, Italy, to take part in an international conference on tackling poverty and social exclusion in cities, at the invitation of the Istituto Regionale di Ricerche Economische e Sociale (The Regional Institute for Economic and Social Research), who paid all travel and accommodation costs. 12-20 February 1999, to Colombia, as a member of an international delegation including parliamentarians from the UK, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Germany and Switzerland, as well as representatives from a number of Catholic NGOs. The visit was organised by the Colombian Catholic Bishops' Conference in conjunction with Caritas International, to make a general assessment of the situation in Colombia and to look in particular at the peace process, the impact of violence and human rights issues. Travel costs, including return flights to Colombia and internal flights, together with all hotel accommodation and meals, were paid for by CAFOD (Catholic Fund for Overseas Development). I am secretary of the All Party Parliamentary Friends of CAFOD. (Registered 24 February 1999)
